AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN COMMITTED TO ACHIEVEMENT, PUBLIC SERVICE AND EXCELLENCE

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The K.A.P.P.A. (Knoxville Area Programs and Partnerships for Achievement) Foundation, Incorporated exists as the philanthropic arm of the Knoxville chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. The Fraternity was founded in 1911 with the motto of "Achievement in every field of human endeavor." The Foundation was established in 2007 as a non-profit, tax exempt, publicly supported organization as described in Section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. Its purpose is to assist the community service efforts of Knoxville Alumni Chapter and the active undergraduate chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi within the Greater Knoxville area.

Our current programs and areas of support consist of the following.

 

Kappa League
•    Self-Identity / Purpose - Discipline, Assurance, Awareness, and Appearance
•    Training - Academic, Career-Choice, Preparation, and Organization
•    Competition - Politics, Career Advancement, and Sports
•    Social - Religion, The Arts, Entertainment, Conversation Communication, and Etiquette/Manners
•    Health Education - Physical Fitness, Sex Education, Drugs, Health and Safety
•    Economic Empowerment & Education - Stock Market, Fundamentals of Banking, Earning, Saving, Spending, Cash vs. Credit
•    College & Career - Academic Readiness, High School and Beyond, Career Day, College Admissions Financial Aid Workshops, Survival/Life

Scholarship - Our annual scholarship, named in honor of Emory Louis Carter (a native of Knoxville, Tennessee) was first awarded in 2004. Emory was a life-long educator and retired from the Knox County Schools System having taught at Bearden Middle School. Because of his passion and commitment to education, the Emory Louis Carter Memorial Scholarship is dedicated in his honor.

Maynard Elementary School - The K.A.P.P.A Foundation and the members of the alumni chapter have adopted Maynard Elementary School to provide tutoring, mentoring and support to both students and faculty ensuring an environment conducive for learning.  Additionally, we continue to leverage our resources to provide support to the surrounding community to address the issues of poverty, single parent homes, and joblessness.


Knox County Schools Teacher Supply Depot - Serve as volunteers for the quarterly Knox County Schools Teacher Supply Depot.

Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge - Provided charitable contributions over the past three (3) years to the museum, supporting its annual Gala.

 

Real Talk - Foundation officers and alumni members serve as mentors to support the Real Talk program.  The purpose of Real Talk is to encourage, enrich, and empower young men to be successful by keeping it real, realistic, and relational, through sharing life experiences.
