EMORY LOUIS CARTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN COMMITTED TO ACHIEVEMENT, PUBLIC SERVICE AND EXCELLENCE
Emory Louis Carter was a native of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born October 27th, 1928 and attended school in Knox County, graduating from Austin High School in 1947. He was initiated as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1949. Emory attended Knoxville College where he graduated in 1951 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree. After graduating from college Emory enlisted in the Army and spent 2 years in the military serving in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1953. Emory was active in his community, serving on Sertoma Learning Center Housing Board, Knox County Retired Teachers Association and Beck Cultural Exchange Center. Faithful member of Rogers Memorial Baptist Church. Serving on the Board of Deacons and Congregational Song Leader. Keeper of Records & Exchequer for the South Central Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A Long Time Member of the Knoxville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. till his death March 23rd, 1990. Emory was a life-long educator and retired from the Knox County Schools System having taught at Bearden Middle School. Because of his passion and commitment to education, the Emory Louis Carter Memorial Scholarship is dedicated in his honor.
